Mötley Crüe in the books (Review)

A while ago Netflix released new movie about MÖTLEY CRÜE called The Dirt. This movie didn't come from nowhere. It's based on their biographical book The Dirt. Today I don't want to talk about this movie. But if you like Mötley you should go and watch it. It's very entertaining. Watch the trailer HERE. But it gives you just a hint about the band. If you want the whole picture you should read the book. This article is about the books which are related to Mötley Crüe.

Note: I own the books in their czech versions.

1. The Dirt: Confessions Of The World's Most Notorious Rock Band (2001)

Thanks to the movie I could finally get this book. Here in Czech it was sold out many many years and it was almost impossible to get it. So I was really happy they re-released it.
I think the whole title of the book says everything. It describes the story of the band from the beginning to the late 90'. You live they story through their eyes and pen of each band members (Nikki, Vince, Tommy and Mick) and also co-workers of the band like producers and managers. Everything is described how it exactly happened. It's the ride full of drugs, sex, alcohol and of course the music. No apologies. Just the picture of the rock'n'roll life in the 80' in LA. You almost feel like you would be part of the story and you walk the street of Sunset Strip together with them. You also find out the origin stories of the band members. They talk about their childhood and problems. And somehow you just understand why they were lost in their lifes. At the end you can only ask how it's possible they are still alive and quite healthy.

2. The Heroin Diaries: A Year In The Life Of Shattered Rock Star - Nikki Sixx (2007)

Heroin Diaries is the second book related to Mötley. But now it describes the story in Nikki Sixx' view. It focuses on his life and his drug addiction. The story is placed in the year 1987. More money=more drugs. Sometimes you can read that someone calls Nikki "the man who died twice". It's quite famous story of his overdoses. First in London when his buddies threw him within the garbage cans. That time he woke up without any help. But the next time was when he overdosed with heroin and it was needed two adrenalin injections right into his heart to bring him back to life. It happened in 23rd December in 1987. And after that moment this book ends. This book is also a bit deeper look into his life in and off the band and about his family background.
The book is also known by its amazing graphics.

3. This Is Gonna Hurt - Nikki Sixx (2011)

This is the last Mötley book for now. It's again written by bass player Nikki Sixx and describes his life in recent time. He's not drug addicted anymore and he also quit drinking. It's mostly his view of the world after all this shit what happened. It's also the view of the man who finally grew up (in some point of view). He shows us his passion of taking photos and the book is full of his work. You can also read about his second band SIXX: A.M. This band was created before The Herion Diaries was released and they released the soundtrack for that book in 2007. And then also the soundtrack for this book in 2011. And two other albums later. You can also read notes from european Mötley Crüe tour in 2009 (Prague included).

But let's play some Mötley Crüe at the end:
